20th century commute: Estonian engineer walk from wooden homes to factory floors

2 hours

Easy

A city is more than its landmarks—it’s the rhythm of daily life. Step into the past and walk the path of an engineer, from wooden homes to factory floors.

We follow the morning footsteps of an Estonian engineer, tracing his daily walk from the wooden houses of Kalamaja to the beating heart of Tallinn’s industrial past—the Volta factories.

Starting at Baltic Railway Station, we move through the streets of Kalamaja, where workers lived in neatly built wooden homes. We follow the quiet stretch of Tööstuse and Vabriku Streets, where industry once dominated the landscape. Along the way, we pause at Cemetery Park, a resting place for generations who shaped this city with their hands and labor.

Finally, we arrive at Volta, where machines once roared and workers clocked in to build Estonia’s industrial future. This is not just a walk—it’s a step into the everyday life of Tallinn’s working past, where homes, streets, and factories were all part of a daily rhythm.

Join the commute. Walk through history. See the city as an engineer once did.
